FESTIVAL PREVIEW: Maiden Voyage

The Jazz Cafe are delighted to bring you Maiden Voyage, a brand new, intimate festival with a difference. Situated in the unique setting of Three Mills Island in East London, join us on August Bank Holiday Sunday as we take you on a sonic trip through the extensive sounds of Jazz, Hip-Hop, Afrobeat and Funk, with a handpicked selection of the very best artists in their respective fields.

Not your average festival, this one-day event will encompass everything you need for a day out with your friends: low ticket price, one stage, zero fuss, with a carefully curated lineup put together with passion by music lovers, for music lovers. The intimate Stratford setting provides a unique backdrop to enjoy some of the greatest musicians on the globe with like-minded individuals.

One of the most prolific producers of the last 20 years, Madlib, joins for a rare London appearance. Responsible for cooking up classics for the likes of J Dilla, Erykah Badu, Ghostface, Mos Def and DOOM to name a few, he has gone on to influence everyone from Flying Lotus to Thom Yorke.

Former member of legendary hip hop group Slum Village, and younger brother of the iconic producer J Dilla, rapper Illa J is the perfect follow-up to Madlib. Having worked with artists such as A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, De La Soul, Common and more, he makes a worthy addition to the bill for his first ever UK festival appearance.

For something mind-blowing and very special, the multi-disciplinary arts and music collective Steam Down will be bringing jazz, afrofuturism, grime and future soul to our stage. Holding down a residency at Buster Mantis in Deptford, they’ve gone on to headline and sell out the prestigious Jazz Cafe amongst other one-off events across the city. Often made up of members of Ahnanse, Sons Of Kemet, Kokoroko and more, they’re known for their seriously super engaging, immersive and energetic shows.
