Review: Pitch 92 - 3rd Culture
High Focus’ most recent signing Pitch 92 returns for his second solo release and debut album on the label and boy does this project bang. Part of Manny heavyweights and Wordplay favourites The Mouse Outfit, Pitch has been heavily active in his own right over the past couple of years, including producing the entirety of Verb T’s most recent album Good Evening and DRS’ brilliant From The Deep which landed earlier this month.
If Lost in Space didn’t already, 3rd Culture has really shown me that Pitch is very much in his own league. His style of production has a real unique twist on the archetype Boom Bap sound. Lucid samples intertwine distinguished drums to build the skeletal, lymphatic and muscular system of this album; as the artistry of some of the scene’s best and brightest fills in the rest. Blood pumping and brain waves buzzing connect the sounds of Pitch’s beats to an incredible array of artists. Reading like a who’s who of UK Hip Hop, the guest list boast the likes of Jehst, The Four Owls. King Kashmere, Verb T, Mysdiggi, Foreign Beggars, Dr. Syntax, Micall Parknsun, DRS alongside regular TMO collaborators Sparkz, Dubbul O and surprisingly, many, many more.
Every single track is necessary and beautifully pieces together on this album. With such a stellar support cast, It’s difficult to pick a highlight but if I had to choose, I would pick the Confucius MC & Iyamah assisted Wise Man.
3rd Culture lands on High Focus this Thursday. Do yourself a favour and make sure you pre-order it here or if you’re a fan of the physical, pre-order your vinyl copies from the HF website.
