10 Questions: Ash The Author
A name constantly being mentioned recently is Ash The Author, and for good reason! Several live shows, supporting, open mics and generally jumping in smashing it, Ash is a force to be reckoned with! With a release from Village Live Records on the way, you will be hearing much more from him in 2020.
1. Contestant, what’s your name, chosen craft and where are you based?
Ash The Author, Rapper from Reading
2. How would you describe your sound?
Fucking dope with a big full stop.
3. Who/what do you consider to be the biggest influence on your music?
Supa T/Sundragon was a huge influence style wise, he’s the illest. Aside from that I get inspiration from graff, comic books, cartoons and films. Music wise atm it’s Lee Scott, Slowthai, and Boneslim. The Billy Woods album Hiding Places has been a massive inspiration too, it’s an amazing piece of art.
4. What’s the proudest moment to date for you as an artist?
Releasing my last album Apex with Village Live was a big moment, my proudest work to date. Other than that it would have to be supporting The Pharcyde.
5. Do you have any advice for our readers who maybe trying to play the mad game of music?
Do your homework, bide ya time, hit as many open mics as you can, don’t be afraid to take chances. But most importantly learn to not give a fuck.
6. Name 3 people you would love to work with and why?
MF Doom - My favourite rapper of all time, if you don’t rate Doom you crazy. Plus he gets nice on the production too, Special Herbs anyone?
Dr Zygote - Production from Z is out of this world, a true wizard on the boards it would be an honour to rock one of those beats! Plus he produced my favourite UK tune of all time (Grizzly)
Gorillaz - One of my favourite bands growing up, to collaborate with them would be a dream come true!
7. What have you got planned for the not so distant future?
I’m working on my next LP which features some heavyweight producers! Also gonna be dropping an EP with my man Luther Andross in the not so distant future so look out for that! Lots of other bits in the pipeline too but don’t wanna let the cat out the bag just yet.

9. What’s the best concert you’ve been to and where was it?
Roots Manuva at Reading Festival 2010 broke in with no wristband, one set of clothes, made it to Sunday to see one of my idols tear shit up! Magic shit.
