JyellowL - 2020 DIVision (Album)
Fresh from his appearance on BBC Three’s ‘Rap Trip’, Dublin rapper JyellowL continues his rise to the forefront of Irish hip-hop with his latest album ‘2020 D|Vision’, out today via his own label.
The 21-year-old MC states that his music is “like a pack of Skittles; a combination of flavours that create a sweet sensation, but when you dip blindly into it you never know what you’re going to get” and this album is no different. From contrasting subject matters, such as the braggadocious statement of intent on ‘Got Me’ and the BBC Radio 1 Xtra ‘Track of the week’, ‘Doesn’t Feel Like’ where he unpacks racism in the UK, to sonically varying tracks like the eerie single ‘Mademoiselle’ and afro swing-inspired album cut ‘Hypocrite’ - he can do it all.
JyellowL, AKA Jean-Luc, first released music in 2017 with ‘Life Right Now’, and although raw, displayed an authentic, socially-conscious mindset that he still carries today. The end of 2018 marked a pivotal moment in JyellowL’s career as he was invited to support two legendary rappers Nelly and Jay Rock on the Irish leg of their respective tours. Following this, he has embarked on his own headline tours, supported his hero The Game and found himself included amongst legends such as Anderson Paak, Major Lazer and Skepta on the FIFA 20 soundtrack with his 2019 single ‘Ozone’.
