Pawcut - 10 Questions
1. Contestant, what’s your name, chosen craft and where are you based?
My name is Pawcut, I‘m a producer and vocal/master engineer based in Minden, Germany. Im also one half of the WeTakeMoney collective.
2. How would you describe your sound?
I rather let others do that rather than myself. It is for sure heady, dirty, dark and all sample based. It pours blood, sweat and tears beyond being chilled, heavy and smooth at the same time. At least I hope so.
3. Who / what do you consider to be the biggest influence on your music?
The unpretentious simple, still genius way Madlib does his thing. The different styles and genres he kicks. The way he never flirts with the mainstream and stays with himself is the biggest influence regarding other producers. Besides that anything I hear and experience from Pink Floyd to John Coltrane, from joy to pain, beauty to horror.
4. What’s the proudest moment to date for you as an artist?
The way my first album "Maverick" was received and sold, and some "keeping it real" moments I don’t feel like going into details here :)
5. Do you have any advice for our readers who maybe trying to play the mad game of music?
Be yourself, theres one thing that you can be sure to do better than anybody else in the world is being you. If you wanna be the 5th best Dilla impersonator, thats much harder to achieve and less thrilling.
6. Name 3 people you would love to work with and why?
I‘d love to do a concept album with Kid Koala doing the cuts and me doing the beats (and Hr Pixel on the visuals), because Kid Koala is the G.o.a.t.
I‘d love to do an official project or remixes with Bohren and The Club of Gore, cause they are my fave active Jazz combo. I‘d like to do a rap album with Ghostface Killa cause sometimes u see him, sometimes u not.
7. What have you got planned for the not so distant future?
I‘ve got my next solo vinyl coming on Radio Juicy in the summer. I‘ve got a funk project in the making that‘s still looking for a home. I‘m working on a solo project for MJM and I‘ll sure be featured on some of their future compilations. I’ve got five vocal projects with different mc‘s and singers in the making and at different stages too.
8. What’s the album you’ve played more than any other?
The Velvet Underground & Nico - The Velvet Underground.
9. What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to? And where?
Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, Peter & the Test Tube Baby’s in Bremen Schlachthof 1981/82.
10. Name 3 things you can’t live without?
My Wife and my Dog. I cant decide between music and weed on the third.
