PREMIERE: Chriz Gabriel - 10 Questions & Parlez (Official Video)

Chriz Gabriel’s new single Parlez (which is out now), was written during a time of playful conversation between Chríz and a romantic interest. With visuals shot in Kingston Jamaica, the hook 'Keep clockin ma Parlez' is a warm plea to the lady he loves as he tries to woo her over with words. Parlez takes you effortlessly back to the time of young love, fluttering hearts and youthful exuberance.

We caught up with Chríz in the midst of this release to ask him 10 questions...

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I remember being little and trying to memorise lyrics from Aaliyah and Timberland along with some dancehall tracks my mom would bring home. I would just reel up the track every time I couldn't understand a line, but little did I know what I was really doing was pumping in a love for lyric + melody.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

Little Simz, Chris Brown and the king of Bay slang E40. I don't think there's many who have influenced the culture more than that man in terms of language, and I feel like working with him would unleash mad creativity in me.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the corona virus pandemic?

I think I wanted to be out in the US right now, doing shows and connecting with people. When the pandemic happened it kinda put a stopper on both international travel and live performance, but thankfully it couldn't stop the music. My focus has turned from a more physical social vibe to more of a social but introverted one, where i can dip into pockets more true to my actual self. Spending more time with myself has helped me to do less comparing and more focusing on things that are true to me and my sound.

4. How would you describe your sound?

Hook heavy, poetic, chill and thoughtful..

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

My proudest moment... performing to a sold out crowd in the Jazz Cafe in Camden, supporting Homeboy Sandman and Edan! I remember that whole night was a vibe. I've had other treasured moments in and out of the LDN but that one I always remember with the most smiles :).

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Take time with yourself. Take time to know your sound. See what you enjoy vibing on and the things that inspire you which are a challenge and a bit out of the box. All the greatest artists were and are a bit out of the box. There will never be another artist like you, so don't be afraid to be yourself.

7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?

Man, I be loving the sounds that come out the Bay, Nef the Pharoah and H.E.R. To be honest i'm quite West Coast heavy with my vibes. I just love the chilled way in which artists from there swim on a beat. But Brooklyn Drill also has me locked in a big way. Artists like Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow are staples for me. Though Drill is serious, they always seem to add a fun party aesthetic to their ting..

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

I've only really been playing one album on Spotify lately. Quentin Quarantino by MEGAMIKES. The whole tracklist is fire.

9. What do you like to do when your not making music?

Walk! You'll always see me on a trod somewhere in West London taking in the people and the culture.

And I read my spiritual word and chill with my Creator. I feel like you have to have an anchor. Something to keep your spirit and soul steady in this crazy world.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

A durag for when the headphones touch the locks, so they keep nice when recording.
Wifi, so I can IG story and shoot over my payment when the sessions done..
... and a notepad just in case I need to pull out an extra flow.
