Yes, yes people! We’re back with another round of 10 Questions to get the lowdown on artists that are on our radar. This time in the hot seat, on the back of her sneakerhead anthem, Salty feat. Jane Handcock, released earlier this month is Olivia Swann…

1. Contestant, what’s your name, chosen craft and where are you based?  

Hello! I’m Olivia Swann, and I’m an artist/songwriter from London.

2. How would you describe your sound?

Oooh… my sound is definitely a blend. It’s jazz influenced, R&B flavoured music, served with a dark side of pop.  

3. Who/what do you consider to be the biggest influence on your music?

Amy Winehouse and every day life emotions.

4. What’s the proudest moment to date for you as an artist?

Having ‘Salty’ my debut single get support & airtime on Beats1, Radio 1 and Radio 1XTRA is MAD! Having my first release getting this kind of reception is such an amazing introduction into the music world. I’m so grateful for all of the love.

5. Do you have any advice for our readers who maybe trying to play the mad game of music?

Having someone in your corner, whoever they may be, experienced or not in this game is HUGE. Being able to trust someone & having someone who believes in your vision is so important in this crazy industry.                              

6. Name 3 people you would love to work with and why?

James Fauntleroy - he’s the pen master.

Tierra Whack - her wit, lyricism, production, visuals, fashion; all on point.

Rodney Jerkins - his ear & sound/sonic choices are the stuff of my dreams.

I’d love to collaborate and make some records with these 3. I think we’d make some crazy stuff!

7. What have you got planned for the not so distant future?

Well now we’re coming out the other side of quarantine, I neeeeed to shoot some music videos for my next releases! Plus hopefully getting back out to the USA to write/record with some of my favourite producers over in Miami and LA. Fingers crossed!

8. What’s the album you’ve played more than any other?

The Game - The Documentary, I literally played this CD on my Walkman over and over. You know, I kinda miss my Walkman!

9. What’s the best concert you’ve been to and where was it?

This is a tough one, but I have to say one of my favourites was Sister Nancy at the Jazz Cafe in London. She absolutely smashed it, the vibes were on 1000 the whole night.

10. Name three things you can’t live without?

1. Water 

2. Noise Cancelling Headphones

3. My Jellycat dinosaur called Travis.
