10 Questions: Your Grandparents
Introducing the genre-blending trio hailing from LA: Your Grandparents. They’ve just dropped the silky new track So Damn Fly from their forthcoming album later this year. In their own words the new track is “An ode to the unapologetically beautiful, black, and bold youth of today. We hope the way this song builds and evolves will leave our listeners in awe.” We caught up with them for some quickfire questions…
1. Contestant, what’s your name, chosen craft and where are you based?
Our names are: Jean Carter, Dacosta, and ghettoblasterman, collectively known as Your Grandparents. We’re from LA and our craft is telling stories through music and film.
2. How would you describe your sound?
Our sound is the culmination of everything that has come before us that has done the job of reflecting situations of life in a timeless manner.
3. Who/what do you consider to be the biggest influence on your music?
It’s hard to say. Between the three of us we listen to so many different genres they all kinda of play an important role. But I guess Jazz, Hip-Hop and Soul are our biggest influences.

Going on tour and really learning how to take control of a crowd. Making music is only one half of the job. Learning how to perform and truly entertain people is just as important.
5. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
Learn the game.
6. Name 3 people you would love to work with and why?
Pharrell, Andre 300, Prince, I think they would encourage us to explore outside of our comfort zone, they’d really push us to try things on songs we would never think to try. Helping us think more creatively.
7. What have you got planned for the not so distant future?
More visuals and music will be coming soon.
8. What’s the album you’ve played more than any other?
