Nutty P Interview

1.      So tell me, how did it all begin?  What sparked your love for music?
It was innate in me from the beginning. I think when I landed here from my home planet, I'd realised that my destiny was to provide this world with the best music a human could possibly make. Hopefully good enough to appease the overlords that dominate our dimension. But in all seriousness though, music was always around me. My dad rapped and made beats, my grandma was heavy into reggae. Basically, I couldn't go wrong with their record collection.

2.    Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
I listen to all sorts of stuff. I'm currently going through a Devo, Eric Clapton phase, but I'd just come out of binging Nine Inch Nails. I like to go back and listen to the older shit as well. Like last weekend when I cleaned my kitchen, I was on an old school busta flex. That guy's vocab is sutton else fam. I'd love to work with Hans Zimmer, Trent Reznor, still haven't done anything with Chester P so that's on the bucket list as well and it'll be a cold day in hell before I turn down the opportunity to work with The Streets. Therer's a lot of new talent out there I'm really fucking with tbr. Like Kwengface, he goes in, Unknown T got some mad patterns as well. Fingers crossed I'll cross paths with these lot one day and I'll give you lot the excluuusiveee.

3.    Your new single is out and doing the rounds, we love it, are you able to tell us if there's plans for a full album and when we can expect it?
Ahhh thanks! Glad you like it, it's a deeper one still. Was so honoured to work with Rodney P. It's just a singles game for me at the moment - work rate is mad, this is my ninth single this year and you can expect a few more tracks before 2020 is done. Although I do have my album title and artwork, just need big ol' XL to pick up the phone and slap six hundred grand on me to fund it. It's not gonna be like my usual stuff.. i mean, shit, what is my usual stuff anyway? The album's going down the root of songs your auntie and uncle could vibe with at the function more than anything. True say man's big three five now so the music i'm composing is reflecting that.

4.    How would you describe your sound?

If I could describe my sound only using two words? I'd say it's: deep rooted in reggae but also kind of hip hop with dubstep and grime influence, with a sprinkle of 80s chicago house - but lest not forget the punk and rare groove and R&b and shit like that.

5.    What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
Hard to pick! Man's worked with Wretch 32, Ghetts, Krept n Konan, Lowkey, SNE, Paigey Cakes, Stefflon Don, Newham Generals and CasIsDead amongst others...

I did get to produce a tune with Mr fucking Vegas on it. I mean. HEADS HIGH KILLLEM WIDDA NOOOO. Bruv. I'm still gassed to this day. Although doing a remix for A Dot and Bussa Buss comes close.

6.    Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
QUIT NOW.
Ok, jokes aside. My advice? Always be open to learning more about what you do and collaborating. Also, spend time honing your craft and making sure you have a distinctive voice, whether it's through writing, production, singing. Like, you can tell the difference between Pepsi and Coke. ONE OF THEM SUCKS. There's a lot of talent out there so you have to put the hours in if you wanna stand out and not just be another donny on myspace tryna get into  someone's top friends. Push yourself. Push the boundaries of art. You produce on a laptop? Maybe figure out what them chords you're programming in are called so when you hit the big time you can tell the brer on lead guitar that "we're in G#7maj" or whatever... If you're a rapper, whatever you're rapping bout, rap bout what's real to you. There are 10million drug dealers out there, we don't need another one thanks.

7.    Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?
Yep. Check my Luna Legacy roster-mates KdotMelody and Maverick Quest (and his band Sons of the Sun) - both of whom have singles out this month. Also, dons like illHAYES, Singh Mahoon, Shai Seven, K Simmz, Incisive, if you aint heard of him, Chuck Zaphrany...

8.    What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?
Can't lie bro, I get all my music off Limewire stilllllll. But more time I'm listening to Buju Banton's newest album, The Libertines' first shits, Drake's More Life is slyly underrated, White Lies are back on rotation and Me. Lots and lots of me.

9.    What do you like to do when you're not making music?
Make music.
Ok ok I'll stop being such a smeg head now. I love a good movie, anything with horrrroooor. Currently reading a book called Futuristi Violence and Fancy Suits, which is amazing if you like a bit of satirical sci-fi. Also waste hours of my life playing games, currently Red Dead, Grim Dawn and Call of Duty. Lost too much sleep over them fuckers.

10. Name Three things you can't live without?
Water. Sleep. Banter

Thanks for chatting with us and good luck for the future man!
