2 September, London: Rapper and actor Kano announced the launch of an exclusive series of conversations - Newham Talks - with well-known faces across the worlds of music and entertainment, sport, food, and literature, to raise money via GoFundMe for the community of Newham in East London, where they all grew up.

Filmed remotely, the eight episode series will see leaders in their fields individually join Kano for an in-depth discussion about growing up in Newham, their road to success, and lessons learned along the way. Along with showcasing Newham’s homegrown talent, the conversations touch on a multitude of thought-provoking topics such as how to support next-generation talent, black creative expression, the death of George Floyd and the subsequent Black Lives Matter protests, the pressure of being in the public eye, and more.

Guests include leading names in the world of music such as Ghetts, Posty (owner of GRM Daily) and a joint episode with D Double E and Footsie. With Olympic, World and Commonwealth 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu, actor Idris Elba OBE, researcher and author Joy White, vegan chef and restaurant owner King Cook, and ex-footballer and Brighton and Hove Albion former manager Chris Hughton, completing the guest line-up.

The money raised via the GoFundMe campaign will go directly to The Renewal Programme which will then equally split the funds between themselves, and additional Newham based charities Caritas Anchor House and Bonny Downs Community Association.

The Renewal Programme will use donations to carry on their essential youth services, including a wide range of activities valued by young people, from IT skills to career advice and guidance on how to cook healthily on a budget. Caritas Anchor House will use the money to continue their work as Newham’s largest and longest established homeless provider for single adults and the Bonny Downs Community Association will continue to support those experiencing homelessness and fighting food poverty.

The first episode will feature Ghetts and was released at 10am this morning via Kano’s YouTube Channel and the GoFundMe campaign page, with an episode released every Friday and Monday until the end of the month.
