10Qs: Planet Giza
Hailing from Montreal, Canada; Rami B, Tony Stone and Dumix are the eclectically influenced, ‘alternative rap soul’ trio Planet Giza. They’ve gone from strength to strength since their widely acclaimed 2019 project and now they’re ramping it up with their forthcoming Don’t Throw Rocks At The Moon EP – they’ve just dropped their first single from the project When The Moving Stops; a bass-driven track co-produced by JMF and led by Tony Stone’s commanding vocals. We caught up with the trio for a quick-fire 10 questions…
1. Contestant, what’s your name, chosen craft and where are you based?
We go by Planet Giza. We make cool music and we're from Montreal, Canada
2. How would you describe your sound?
Our sound is a mixture of different genres. Let's just call it alternative rap soul dance music for now.
3. Who/what do you consider to be the biggest influence on your music?
NBA Street Vol 2 and everything that comes from Southern Hip-Hop
4. What’s the proudest moment to date for you as an artist?
Our proudest moment so far was performing at the Montreal Jazz Fest with a live band. It was an incredible milestone!
5. Do you have any advice for our readers who maybe trying to play the mad game of music?
Best advice we can give is be yourself. Make the music you love and don't overthink shit (shoutouts to Kenny Beats).
Also, make sure to have a select few people that you trust when it comes to their opinions on your music.
Sometimes it comes in handy but always trust your gut #1
6. Name 3 people you would love to work with and why?
Busta Rhymes - His energy on songs is unmatched. He has never been afraid to try different flows and attempt things other artists wouldn't. We really feel like we could create something epic with him.
Freddie Gibbs - Aside from him being hilarious, he's one of the dopest rappers right now. Working with him would put us in that grimy rapper vibe that most people don't know we can get into very well.
Kendrick Lamar - One of the top artists of our time. At one point we wanted to be signed to TDE so bad haha. Creativity wise this man is amazing. Working with him would simply unlock a new level of creativity and it would be some of the best music we ever made.
7. What have you got planned for the not so distant future?
We have plenty of music on the way! Also, we started writing a short film that we're trying to produce. We really want to get out of our comfort zone.
8. What’s the album you’ve played more than any other?
Q-Tip - The Renaissance, D'Angelo - Voodoo, T.I - King
9. What’s the best concert you’ve been to and where was it?
A Tribe Called Quest at the Governor’s Ball in New York and Childish Gambino at the O2 in London
10. Name three things you can’t live without?
Pizza, Music and Headphones
