Oliver Keane - Fall Down (Official Video) + 10 Questions

Up-and-comer Oliver Keane returns with his epic second single ‘Fall Down’ via Platoon.

Following his flawless stripped-back debut ‘In The Morning’, Oliver Keane is back with a stellar next move.

‘Fall Down’ is a guitar-slicked anthem touching on matters of the heart. The indie-rock offering is a powerful next move that hints at a heavier side to Oliver's sound. Sharing a little more, Oliver explains; “Fall Down is my homage to all the indie influences on my music, taking my spin on the classic bittersweet, indie romance song.”

Derby born and newly London-based, Oliver Keane is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Having first picked up a guitar aged nine, initially training classically and forming a strong technical foundation to his playing. Since hitting his teens Oliver

was determined to forge his own path and has barely paused for breath. Explaining more, Oliver shared “I’ve probably written something in my notes or made a voice note every single day for the past six years. We're talking about thousands of songs. I can’t remember the last time I went without making music, or having some form of an idea just sitting in the back of a train, singing to myself like a weirdo...”

Now only just turned 18, Oliver has crafted a style that boasts distinctive vocals and articulate lyricism way beyond his years.

Oliver sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I started off as a classically trained guitarist and for a lot of my younger years, this was my main focus. I wrote my first song at 13 and have written music ever since. As much as the guitar was my first love, in recent years  I’ve been passionate about loads of other instruments and I’ve still got this childish excitement towards learning new instruments.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I was brought up around a lot of old-school rock influences such as Pink Floyd, Nirvana etc and alternative music will always have a place in my life. Alongside that, I have such a love for less mainstream genres such as Jazz which has taught me so much over the years. If I could work with one person right now it would probably be Travis Barker as I have been super into more punk-influenced pop at the moment.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the coronavirus pandemic?

I grew up in the countryside and was still there during the first few lockdowns and to be honest it didn’t really impact my music creation, if anything it gave me more time to focus on what it is I want to do. However, I  started running out of things to write about so started fabricating a lot of my songs and I think it really affected how the emotion was conveyed.

4. How would you describe your sound?

It took me such a long time to find my sound and to be honest, I don’t think I ever will fully find my sound. At the end of the day, my music is just an expression of how I’m feeling in that moment and I’m not going to feel the same every day for the remainder of my life. I do believe my music will always be orientated around a more indie/alternative feel and being a guitarist that will always be at the forefront of my music.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

I am such a perfectionist so therefore don’t think I’ll ever be fully satisfied in my achievements, however signing off on my last project was really difficult for this exact reason. I put myself through hell trying to make everything 100% but music is a subjective thing and it's never going to be perfect so I think finally realising this was a big step for me.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Music is a subjective thing, everybody is entitled to an opinion but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re right. fuck the haters.

7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?

A good friend of mine Danny O’Grady has such a unique voice and so much feel that I think a lot of artists are lacking at the moment. He’s tried out so many different genres recently and he puts his own spin on everyone, its so hard to decide which one suits him the best.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

I don’t think I’ll go a day in my life without listening to at least 20 minutes of Catfish and the Bottlemen, especially the Balcony. I've been listening to Holly Humberstone’s debut EP “Falling Asleep At The Wheel” a lot as well.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Literally, every hobby I have is creative, I do quite a lot of photography, cooking but to be honest I’ve just been seeing my friends a lot more recently after not seeing people for like a year.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Lot’s of food, a comfy ass hoodie, and my headphones for the journey.
