Finches - Simp Song (Official Video)

Finches’ debut single Simp Song, produced by IndieKid (insta- @sanj.wav), brings vulnerability and insecurity to the bedroom pop genre and uses it as a way of exploring ideas of his own masculinity. The song plays on the idea of the word ‘simp’ and its use on social media to reflect on the more fragile side of his identity.

‘Over the last year with the in the lockdown, the way I approach expression and my own sense of masculinity changed, I learnt to look into my expression of vulnerability as authentic, genuine and more in touch with my fragile side.’

The song deals with Sense of overwhelming longing to be adored in a one-sided relationship, something many have experienced. It's about accepting insecurity and our need for affection.

Finches' music is for listeners of Still woozy, Rex Orange County and Oscar Welsh and he draws heavy inspiration from Elliot Smith. Smiths influence is most notable in the simple, lo-fi production and acoustic feel of the track and the dreamy pop melody of the chorus creates a lucid listening experience. Finches' vocals are delivered with a distinctive alternate sounding grit and this makes up one of the core elements of his sound.
