El Train - And Then We Woke Up (Album)
Brighton born Producer and DJ Luke Nyeke aka El. Train is known for his ability to blend together Hip-Hop, R&B and Electronic beats with a heavy nod to the US West Coast beats scene. One of the UK scene’s brightest emerging producers he is making serious waves on both sides of the Atlantic
In the last few years, El Train has released music on labels such as Kitsuné, Darker Than Wax and Jakarta Records. His self-released debut album Puzzles was unveiled in June 2019. Set for release on November 2, 2021, his second album And Then We Woke Up was dreamt during lockdown and encapsulates "the feeling of returning to some sort of normality after what feels like an extended period of hibernation"
Although the whole industry ground to a halt during that time, he previously got the chance to venture into the live arena, playing his first live show with a full band at Metropolis Studio, for Clash Mag Live. As a DJ, he’s known for his eclectic sets and has been recruited to play Glastonbury, Wildlife and a host of other festivals, as well as regular shows across the UK and support slots for the likes of Snakehips, Bondax, Shay Lia, Jamz Supernova, Zak Abel, MSSINGNO and Mr Carmack.
In the media, current support for El Train comes from The Fader, Complex, Wonderland, Line Of Best Fit, Notion and many more. At radio, El Train's tracks were picked up by BBC 1Xtra, MistaJam, Huw Stephens, DJ Target, BBC Introducing, Complexion (Radio Westside), Rinse FM, NTS, Reprezent Radio and Soulection DJ’s. El Train's musicality and groove haven't gone unnoticed by his peers either: his list of collaborators includes Pip Millett, Iyamah, Zilo, Age of L.U.N.A., Kallitechnis, Alexa Harley, Jerome Thomas, Barney Artist, Cold Callers, Kudu Blue, Sidders and Miki Rose. 13-track long, And Then We Woke Up will feature some of his current favourite artists such as Kaisha, Paal Singh, Byulah, Jaz Lund and other exciting up and coming names.
El Train says about the process “Like most of the tracklist, ‘Feeling Blue’ was born during the first lockdown and heavily inspired by everything that was going on in the world at the time. « When the lockdown hit, I kind of ramped up my work rate. The idea for this album began to take shape towards the end of 2020. I’d been working on so much new music with all these amazing people without ever meeting anybody in person (those pesky lockdowns!). The music industry itself completely ground to a halt for 18 months and it felt to me like we were all kind of hibernating. ‘And Then We Woke Up’ is meant to encapsulate the feeling of returning to some sort of normality after what feels like an extended period of hibernation », he continues. While sleepwalking through the emotions, seasons and every curveball life threw at him during this pandemic, El Train dreamt of his eclectic Shangri-la. From oneiric jazzy interludes to the aery r&b from Lessons in Love, from the groovy Video Game to the UK-garage-inspired MAD... ‘And Then We Woke Up’ and its electro soul explorations make for the perfect stargazing companion”.
