PREMIERE: Lucius - Pattern Up (Single)

Following his debut single release from this year and arrival to the underground UK rap scene in 2021, ‘Lucius∴’ is set to release his second self-produced single ‘Pattern Up’ just before the end of the month on all major streaming platforms. From previously having produced the instrumental back in 2019, with intentions for lease to another artist, Lucius∴ made the decision to use the backing track for himself and finished writing and arranging the final track just prior to the lockdown period at the start of 2021.

‘Pattern Up’ (if anything) - is an appropriate follow-up to his previous release ‘WORK’ as it aims to balance the same in-your-face attitude with Lucius’s inherently British cadence and melodic flows over a heavily trap inspired instrumental. Again, he shows his skill within delivering high-impact, head spinning lyricism and raps, while there still being an apparent hook to the track for catchiness and replay value needed for another standalone single release.

Lucius∴’s style and this next release could be described as where hip-hop and rap in the UK has seemed to be heading for the past few years – and that is a showcase of delivering trailblazing flow and lyricism over heavy bass driven beats with trappy drum instrumentation, paired with old-school hip-hop sample cuts and ‘synthy’ melodies. Lucius∴ seems to be able to do so with ease as a meticulous producer and rapper while using on-trend slang and jargon of London and the surrounding boroughs, as well as making popular cultural references within his writing that is relatable to his current audience and fan base.
