ANGE - Whatever U Tell Me (Official Video) + 10 Questions

Following the release of her critically praised single ‘Whatever U Tell Me’ Sydney-based ANGE has just unveiled the accompanying video clip for the track.

The music video was shot at her home during lockdown with her multitalented cinematographer flatmate Nico Nalbandian, conceptualised and directed by Molly Haddon and edited by Lily Davis.

The clip dances between cold and warm tones, dripping enticement through playful silhouettes and water reflections.
"'Whatever U Tell Me' is a tribute to loving and embracing yourself" says ANGE.

"When talking about what it really means to embrace your sexuality, we felt that it can only be achieved through self-love It's really about being comfortable in your own skin, and embracing your desires and needs." says director Molly Haddon.

ANGE sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I always say what sparked my love for music was my dad’s vinyl collection. He’s not a musician but he loved to sing when he was young and has fantastic music taste. When I was little, Sunday mornings were my favourite because that’s when we’d clean the house and my dad would turn on the record player and spin records from Frank Sinatra to Bob Marley, Boney M and Santana in the living room. I soaked it all up and developed a huge love for Soul music.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

This is  hard, there’s so many! I’d love to write with Frank Ocean, Alicia Keys, Kimbra, Jorja Smith and Gabriel Garzon-Montano, to name a few. I love their sensibility and experimentation and how touching their music is.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the coronavirus pandemic?

It has been challenging not being able to do gigs and promo shoots and working with a team of people in person. Recording music has also been tricky but I have to say the pandemic has brought lots of other wonderful things. It’s helped me slow down and have more time to write and improve my routine and skills.

4. How would you describe your sound?

I make Latin-infused R&B/Pop music. I like to merge lots of flavours and genres into one, including also a mix of Spanish and English language. My music is smooth and sultry and I love adding lush vocal harmonies and ethereal synths.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

My proudest moment as an artist happened a year ago when I finally decided to quit my corporate job to make music full time. It was a huge step, especially during such an uncertain time, but I took the leap and put all my energy into my music. I’m so glad I did! I haven’t looked back.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

You have to be ready for the ups and downs, for the rejection, the sleepless nights and the self-doubt. You have to love music madly to put up with all the work and anxiety that comes with it but the good thing is that if you believe in yourself and persist the rewards are amazing. The lessons, the self discovery, sharing music with people and connecting with their stories makes it all worth it.

7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?

Absolutely! Lately I’ve been really loving listening to AQUIHAYAQUIHAY and Elena Rose. I’ve also been listening to the new Milan Ring and Kali Uchis on rotation which I adore. They are both so inspiring.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Definitely Doja’s Planet Her and Joy Crookes’ Skin. Both so bold and infectious.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I’m still trying to figure that out haha but I’d say go out to eat, to the beach or camping.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Notebook, pen and ginger tea.
