Mistajay - One Heart Beat Away (Album) + 10 Questions

Mistajay drops his new album - One Heartbeat Away. With features from his group The Empires, Prince Imperial and Speak No E as well as other artists from outside the collective The FatBoy, Ed E. Ruger, Maine Man, Prince Unique, Mickey Factz, Pace Won of the Outsiderz, and Three more special surprises.

Mistajay sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

Hearing music on the block as a child my first song was written in 5th grade.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

OG legends like Snoop, KRS One, more recent acts like Royce 5’9.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the corona virus pandemic?

Just trying to set up and be a part of performances getting music listened to has been easier since many people were home.

4. How would you describe your sound?

Classic lyrical Hip-Hop.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist? 

Being able to create my own label spotlight other artists and celebrate 10 years of the Underground Experience.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Keep learning everything is a learning process learn the business and networking is important.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Ed E Ruger Huntday Cayenne the Lion King The Fat Boy all who appear on my upcoming album One Heart Beat Away.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

NC Heavy right now, Morray Street Sermons, J.Cole The Off-season, Little Brother My the Lord Watch, Rapsody EVE and a lot of Classic Hip-Hop too many to name.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I’m looking for new Indy artists to spotlight.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

I’m just an artist that keeps it simple, writing material, music and a good engineer.
