Patawawa - 10 Questions + So Late (Goldteeth Remix)

Derbyshire NuDisco trio Patawawa’s new track So Late, get’s a heavy remix from Goldteeth (aka Andy Nicholson, founding member and original bass guitarist of Arctic Monkeys).

This is Goldteeth’s debut remix. He mellows Patawawa’s original, bringing the lyrics to the fore with driving synths creating a dream-like soundscape which wraps the listener in the emotion of hope and longing.

Speaking on the track, Patawawa said: “We got in touch with Andy (Goldteeth) via Instagram as he’d been putting out bangers and wondered if he would be up for a writing session. We did a couple of days with him which were amazing! It just seemed like a natural thing to ask him to do a remix for us and we are so glad he did! We love it!!”

Patawawa sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music

I've been into music for as long as I can remember, but starting guitar lessons really sparked the creative side of it for me.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

Most of my influences come from the 70s and 80s, Stevie wonder, the Jackson 5, and pretty much the whole Motown label is a great go to place for inspiration, and I'd be honoured to work with anyone from that scene, more recently I've been listening to four Tet, still woozy and Tom misch so any of those guys would be amazing to work with.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the coronavirus pandemic?

Well we tried to release our album in September 2020 and it's now February 2021 and it's still not out so that pretty much answers that question haha! But we're looking forward to finally releasing it on 26th March.

4. How would you describe your sound? Budget boogie! 5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Hearing our album on vinyl for the first time or playing in Japan were both incredible moments and both pretty recent.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Don't go on a European tour in a 15 year old ford focus.

7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?

George Moir, he's started releasing last year and has got a few absolute bangers already.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Daft punk - Discovery is the main one on rotation at the moment.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Corona virus has reduced my list of activities to cooking, eating and a 30 minute government approved walk a day, I'd absolutely love to be drinking responsibly in the sun with loads of mates though.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Probably my guitar, amp and mic, I need them in about 90% of the stuff I make.
