With the release of his new album “Rainbows In The RubbleFrisco Boogie sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I started playing drums as a kid, through listening to Adam and the Ants and as the cliche goes ,actually banding on pots and pans...I played for a good few years in jazz funk band nearly got sign to Arista (but thats another story), I started writing songs and raps when I was about 16 and never really looked back......

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I am influenced by so many but not really a lot of hiphop people, I love prince, Tracy Chapman, Wether Report (a 70’s/80’s jazz funk band), the list could go on. I would love to do a track with Rodney P, we met years ago through Joe Buhdda who's a close friend of mine. Masta Ace would be great to record with. Kano is one of my favourite UK MCs so that would be a good collaboration. We will see what the future holds. With the Internet it's easy to work with people. On that last Album I had LA soul artist G.Geroso who I met on Instagram. so anythings possible.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the coronavirus pandemic?

I can't even say lock down has been bad for music, it's been great for me. I work from home now. Which creates time as I don't have to drive miles to work so I have been putting that to good use. I have the next Album almost written. It's a two part project; part 1 is compete. Putting music out is easier these days as 99% is Internet based. Back in the day we had to travel for studio time and physically take record to shops for distribution etc. It was so time consuming, but these days it's so.much quicker.

4. How would you describe your sound?

Not sure really, I would like people to say lyrical hip hop!

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

I have a few. Being on stage with MC supernatural In Leicester and going bar for bar off the top of the head was one.
Hearing Craig G freestyle on stage and his last bar mentioning passing the mic to Frisco and then I took my turn all while Marly Marl was playing the beat on his MPC!
And just being able to still release music that people resonate with, I have a track with my late farther (he passed away in 2018) on and it was played on the radio which was so amazing as it meant my dad had been on the radio too!

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

For me it's about balance these days, it used to be all about the bars, which it still is to some extent, but I make music and it has to have all the parts to have any chance of being good (in my opinion) there is a bag of man doing music or spitting bars over a beat, but that's not the compete product for me. its not even about selling or getting people to like it, it's just about being a complete piece of art. if I make it and like it, I can live with someone saying they don't like it, because only one of us is then disappointed. if I try and make music for people to like at my expense and they don't like it, then we both don't like it and that's disappointing.

7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?

Vandal Savage is nice, J littles is another Notts head...

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

I listen to everything, Nas it was written, Jay's first album, Griselda, Skyzoo, Kano's last couple of albums and then I am listening to Paul Simon Graceland’s a lot at the moment. I always listen to the new artist at once just so I know what's going on.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Graffiti, I am a writer as well so you would find me in a park somewhere hitting up the walls. I only stopped teaching and training at dance a couple of years ago, I do still host a lot of dance battles and shows though. I am trying to learn how to DJ at the moment. I also go to the gym as much as possible.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

A pad and a pen, just to scribble the quick ideas on and Pepsi cherry max.

Rainbows In The Rubble is out now on all major streaming sites.
