TULIP88 sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
My Dad always had music on in the house. Jazz, Funk, Soul, Motown - I loved all of it. My older brother was playing hip-hop, as I started to connect the dots through the samples I was hooked.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
It almost seems cliché to say these days but as a teen J Dilla and Madlib changed the way I listened to music. They are still inspirational to me - I listen to them most days. Artists I would like to work with, there are too many! I love Greentea Peng's work, likewise with Lord Apex. They are both so unique, I love their styles.
3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the coronavirus pandemic?
I've found I have more time to create which is a positive and I've been lucky enough to release a few projects. I'd say one of the issues during the social media age in general is getting hold of people's attention for a meaningful amount of time.
4. How would you describe your sound?
Old ears in a new age.
5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
I've been lucky enough to travel to some interesting places and meet some idols through music. I was a year one Future Bubbler and learnt some valuable lessons. Getting tunes played by dj's you admire is always a nice moment.
6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
Keep creating. Bullet point the places you want to stop on your journey, be free enough to get there via any route.
7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?
I'm all about my home city of Nottingham, with that in mind I've been working a lot with Franky Bones, he's a master of many arts. Ella Knight too, they are both real talents! I'm also in a duo called Congi and we've got some nice stuff dropping soon with my man Jimmy Rocket.
8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?
Juga-Naut - Bem
Demae - Life Works Out... Usually
Alecs DeLarge & Ash the Author - Wizards and Sprites
9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?
My life revolves around music, politics, family and friends.
10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?
Headphones, keyboard, decks.
