Corbin Canvas sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

Growing up there was always a natural push of creation and being myself. Both of my parents are artistic but in different mediums. My Dad is a Professional Chef and Visual artist, Interior Designer, and my mom is a fashion designer/fashion buyer activist, missionary and museum curator. I watched them do their thing and knew I had something in me, and that was music. I used to go in the basement with my dad every night and he would blast Old school House, Funk, R&B, Ballads, I couldn't get enough of it so I started playing the piano to start when I was 6 or 7.

Before learning instruments and production just listening to music and watching vintage concerts was the beginning.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

My influences are all over the artistic spectrum from Kanye West, Pharrell, Andre 3000 to Jean Michel Basquiat, Marvin Gaye, Yayoi Kusama. As far as who I would want to work with in the future, anybody in that list would be a dream for me.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the coronavirus pandemic?

I haven't had too many, but one is definitely the feeling of watching your music come alive on stage or on the dance floor, because of the pandemic a lot of the songs I love to make I started to hold on to at the beginning of quarantine because I wanted to wait for the world to unite and rage again. Now I don't think about it as much, I just do what I feel

4. How would you describe your sound?

I would describe my music as FUTURE. It's a collection of different worlds and genres merging together. The consistent theme or sound in my music is rhythmic journey feels and melodics. From Hip Hop, House, Soul, Afrobeat, Trap, R&B.

I live in all of those worlds but the experience is different every time

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

My proudest moment was my second real show as a solo artist. I performed at the Phillips Collection Museum in Washington DC. At that show, I had to turn a museum setting into a rager by myself and It was a success. There are a lot of things I have accomplished in my life already but that moment was just about overcoming uncharted territory and being 100% me.

Keep Going, Embrace the good vibes and the bad vibes that come with perfecting your sound and craft. It's all a part of the journey.

7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?

I would say this year a lot of my talented friends and family are about to make appearances. Check-in with RICKEXPRESS, NIYA NORWOOD, KRISSY WALL, PYRO TRUX, AYRUN VENA

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

MY BEAUTIFUL DARK TWISTED FANTASY - YE
THE LOVE BELOW - OUTKAST
FANTASTIC VOL 2 - SLUM VILLAGE

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I love watching Films and Traveling to new places.

10. Name three things you can't live without when in the studio

This actually changes from time to time but for right now I can't live without, A Black Hoodie, Water, and Incense.

Jive Turkey (Remix) will be available on all major streaming platforms from tomorrow (26.03.2021).
