Minus Gravity - 10 Questions
With roots in San Antonio and Atlanta now calling home Los Angeles, Minus Gravity consists of friends since high school Mic Apollo, Sir Blaze and Rob Will. Making music together since 2014, they burst onto the scene in 2018 with debut single ‘Options’, produced by Grammy winner Rich Skillz (Robin Thicke, Nas, Ludacris). The guys make self-described ‘mood’ music, a hypnotic blend of hip hop and R&B with songs for every kind of mood; happy, sad, mad, heartbroken, getting ready for the club, driving to the club, in the club, or just chilling with your man/girl.
Minus Gravity sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
With each of us it all started different but one similarity is we all started making music in the church.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
Stevie Wonder, James Blake, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Michael Jackson, Beyonce and all of the greats
3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the coronavirus pandemic?
We haven't really faced any problems in that aspect; mostly just live shows and not being able to really connect and touch people on stage. We just did our first show since the pandemic so that feels really good.
4. How would you describe your sound?
It’s mood music, we have a song to play for every mood you're in... happy, sad, on the way to the club, inside the club, getting ready for the club, going through a break up etc.
5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
Honestly there are too many moments, we used to be homeless in LA for two years. so to come from that and look around and see where we are right now is the greatest feeling ever.
6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
i would just say stay true to yourself, don't give up because if this is something you really want to do, it's not easy but you can never give up no matter how bad it seems... keep pushing through.
7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?
Elley Duhé and Tyla Yaweh are a couple of our friends that are really dope and about to be up next.
8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?
We listen to our own music more than anything but the James Blake album that was released this year, Young Dolph, Lana Del Rey just released a dope project also.
9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?
We play basketball for cardio and it's our favorite sport to play together and then we make more music, rehearse and just try to get better.
10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?
weed, liquor, amazing energy and vibes.
