Hemai - Strange Beauty (Album)

Haling from Birmingham the multi-instrumentalist and producer Hemai has released his debut album ‘Strange Beauty’. The album has features from the likes of Layfullstop, FiFi Robo, Wallace, Emilia Anastazja, Ruby Wood, Maralisa, Laura Roy and Woddy Green.

‘We Could Be Jaded feat Layfullstop’ gives off a ethereal vibe at the start as we can hear the Erica Tucceri’s flute enter in and it’s stunning. Then you get the soulfulness of Layfullstop with her smooth vocals gliding over adding another dynamic to the track A mixture of soul, jazz with a dash of electronic and I love the breakdown section at the end.

Speaking about the first track on the album. Hemai explains. “Though indicating the beginning of a journey, the track embraces the importance of being grounded in the present”.

These tracks have seen Hemai garner support from the likes of Lauren Laverne (BBC 6Music), Jack Saunders (BBC Radio 1), Jamz Supernova (BBC 1Xtra), Tony Minvielle and China Moses (Jazz FM), Papaoul (Worldwide FM).

Hemai explains “I’m an avid believer in emotive expression over logical expression. Feel over theory. It has a heart of its own.”
