clipping. - Wriggle (Expanded) (EP)
Clipping. - the experimental hip-hop group lead by Daveed Diggs - have surprise released a remastered and expanded version of their fan-favourite Wriggle EP. The new ten-track digital version is out digitally now on DSPs with a vinyl version due on 9th July.
The original, 2016, digital-only Wriggle EP was comprised of six tracks that weren’t finished in time to make it on to the group’s CLPPNG album. For Shooter, the trio recorded themselves firing fifteen different guns, the sounds of which constitute the beat’s drums, augmented only by a synthesised tone-row. The EP’s blistering title track, Wriggle is built around a sample of the influential power-electronics song Wriggle Like a F*cking Eel by Whitehouse, with the source material transformed in to an instructional dance-floor banger.
The new, 2021 edition of Wriggle features new artwork, guests, plus previously unreleased remixes. The now-essential Clipping tracks Wriggle and Shooter are retained, along with Intro, Hot F*ck No Love feat. Cakes da Killa & Maxi Wild and Our Time feat. Maliah Middleton. Newly added are; Back Up 2021 feat. SB The Moor and Debby Friday, remixes of the title track by drum n bass / breakbeat act Homemade Weapons and Classicworks label co-founder Cardopusher, a rework of Back Up by producer Dave Quam (formerly Massacooramaan), plus Chicago footwork producer Jana Rush delivers a dizzying remix of Shooter (and of Hot F*ck No Love for the vinyl version).
