“I grew up the same as all the boys,” he says, “just 10 man behind the shops in the alley listening to grime.” For Alex,, Chris Brown became another major influence “he did exactly what I wanted to be.” Coupled with the sensitivity of James Blake’s sound, Alex began to piece together what would later become his musical identity. And, by the time Alex hit 14, he had already started working a path into the industry proper. “I made a record at a local studio back then, a youth club type thing. Then I just spent probably like, the next two weeks on Facebook -- when Facebook really came about -- and I was just sending it to anyone that I could see was in music.” Alex quickly embraced the power of personal branding and it paid off when he “found the guy at the time who wanted to meet up, and I made a record with him and his team on Thursday and then I was dragged into Sony that following Saturday. Then kind of things fast-tracked and a couple of months later, I was performing at Wireless festival.”

LXT sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

My love for music starts with Phantom Of The Opera, being taken there as a child by my late Grandfather, we would go once a year and it was magical. Then Simply Red in the whip with my mum singing her heart out to it.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

Jamiroquai, Maxwell, Bobby Caldwell, Simply Red, Luther Vandross, The Neptunes, Mac Ayres & Kanye West. I would love a session with Pharrell & Chad one day, hit factory.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the corona virus pandemic?

I personally haven't found any problems releasing in the pandemic. If anything, it was a blessing in disguise, it allowed me to stay grounded and in the studio every day. The only problem I found was missing, networking events to work with new artists and shows.

4. How would you describe your sound?

LXT is Electronic Funk, I want you to close your eyes and feel like you're under some palm trees, sippin’ something sweet with suttin’ loud. It's simple.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

I've had many highs and lows, but building my own studio to make music on my time and terms was special.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Don't watch nobody else, don't chase the numbers, be authentic and do not imitate others, don't chase trends, spread spiritual nourishment through your music and avoid the fucking noise!

7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?

Absolutely, one benefit of being a hot upcoming artist is being surrounded by the rest of them.. 'Where's Wayne?' my favourite NW rapper rn.. and our very own 'Sofia La Fuente' for sensational vocals.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Sleep bruv.. I work a corporate 9 - 5 to fund the 5 - 11, sleep, rinse and repeat.
