“How to enjoy? This track wouldn’t go amiss while ridding your room of unwanted energy with some smoky sage. Or soaking in a bubble bath, candles lit, wine glass in hand.”
NDN sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music:
I cant remember a particular time when it sparked, but i do know since i was little, I've always loved music. Even when me and my dad would follow my mum to baby scans of my little brother, I'd dance to the beat of his heart, and i was only 1. Ive always loved music, so making music was just part of me.
2. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing music during the corona virus pandemic? Not being able to get in the studio! Studio is literally my life line, I go there to escape and obviously make music, so for a few months i had really bad writers block because i wasn't in the stu, so had to find different ways to get myself creative.
3. How would you describe your sound?
Sensual and proud. Im a Nigerian babe and grew up watching Nollywood and listening to RnB. I loved watching Nollywood babes and there ridiculous love circles, coupled with my love for early 2000s RnB, i feel like this has helped evolve my sound and lyrics.
4. What’s your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
Probably doing my 1st ever live show, even though looking back i sounded horrible because i was so nervous, i was able to get over a fear of huge crowds, and now i sing anywhere!
5. Your new single Love Language is out now and doing the rounds, it’s about black girl magic, could you tell us some more about the story behind the song?
I wrote this song 4 years ago, and it was during a very turbulent situationship where i really wasnt valued. In that moment, when writing Love language, it made me feel like i was taking my power back. The lyrics are me reminding myself of my power, my sensuality and reminding myself that i'm a serious babe! I remember playing the song to him in the car, and he loved it, and to this day he probably doesn't even know its about him. Thats what i love about making music , you can indirect a guy to his face and he has no idea!
6.Name 3 people you would love to work with and why?
Currently, there are some babes crushing it in the UK music scene and I'd love to work with them. Shaybo is a must, Juls, he's an incredible producer and works effortlessly with UK female singers and Wizkid, just being in the studio with him would be incredible.
7. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify currently?
I’m still not over Made in Lagos, Wizkid really ATE with that album.
8. What do you like to do when you're not making music?
when I'm not making music, I'm usually out with my girls, especially now everythings open, we 're making up for lost time!! So every weekend I'm not in the studio, I'm outside!
9. Do you have any advice for our readers who are maybe trying to play the mad game of music?
Make music you want to make, and find a producer that compliments you rather than over steps and tells you how they want you to sound. You make the best music when you are comfortable and in control, so never forget to stay in control.
10. Name 3 things you can't live without in the studio?
Haribos, a steamer and Camomile tea
