Marzz - Love Letters (EP) + 10 Questions

21-year-old R&B singer Marzz drop’s her debut EP ‘Love Letterz.’ via Keep Cool/RCA/Columbia, the six-song project is a captivating introduction that fuses the Louisville starlet’s classic R&B and gospel influences.  Marzz has a central focus for listeners: for them to enter tomorrow’s world through her mind. Drawing inspiration from the planet Mars’ fiery-red intensity, the rising R&B singer/songwriter (who hails from Louisville, KY), hopes to teach others to embrace their uniqueness.

The singer soon found solace through a mixture of secular and gospel artists, including Beyoncé, Lauryn Hill, Mariah Carey, Erykah Badu, Kirk Franklin, Kim Burrell, and the Clark Sisters. At first, Marzz considered pleasing her mother by going to bible college to learn how to become a pastor. But she knew her passion lies within secular music. So, after coming out in high school and having fellow students cheer on her talents during pep rallies, she built the confidence to take being an R&B artist as a serious career. Marzz’s talent caught the attention of none other than one of modern music’s pioneers: Timbaland. The legendary producer reached out to Marzz to record a handful of tracks and shared her talents on his Instagram page, not only boosting her growing fan base but changing her life. As fans continue to discover Marzz, she hopes her music will fuel their imagination to create their own narratives -- almost like a magic spell.

Marzz sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin?  What sparked your love for music?

Started singing in school when my friends would encourage me to do so after hearing me without me knowing.  What sparked my love for music was just being able to put myself in a zone and focus in on my emotions and my breathing.  Making music allows my energy to protect, open up and process things. It also helps me reflect my energy into positivity and love and I’m big on manifestation.  I believe the energy I put in is the energy I give out and receive back

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I love Jhene Aiko. I can relate to her in so many things.  Lauryn Hill's vocal ability is something that calls me and I love to study her and the way she uses her voice.

I’d love to work with :

Jhene aiko

Brandy

Bryson tiller

Kash Paige

Jack Harlow

Tetanus Taylor

Jgrrey

Destinyrogers

James Blake

Adam Levine

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the corona virus pandemic?

Problems I’ve had making and releasing music would definitely be me being so hard I’m myself and being a perfectionist. I need everything to be on point. I critique myself a lot and I can’t really do any live shows to critique further.  I wanna sing live to a huge crowd and have moments with the supporters.  It sucks cause I can’t have those moments just yet but hopefully that changes soon 😩

4.  How would you describe your sound?

True and melodic.  I write all my songs from a real place in hopes someone out there can relate and use my music to help them in some way.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Everyday is a proud moment really. Definitely seeing my growth and being able to connect with my fans, watching everybody enjoy my music and just really being in the moment while taking everything in. Working with Timbaland was crazy too.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
