PREMIERE: Palmaria - Saudade (Single) + 10 Questions

The track is a dreamy slice of soulful alt-pop for fans of The xx, Little Dragon and Sylvan Esso. Seamlessly blending organic sounds, delicate guitar riffs and a charming vocal delivery, ‘Saudade’ instantly leaves the listener in a dreamy state of longing.

Speaking on the track’s premise, Palmaria said: “‘Saudade’ is the story of a life changing encounter, set in a dream in the heat of the summer night. Something that leaves a sense of déjà vu and a longing for something or someone that might never be found again. In your mind, you keep reliving that moment.”

Hailing from a small picturesque town along the Italian coastline, Palmaria were raised by the sea, absorbed in nature. Growing up listening to genres as diverse as Bossa Nova, Opera and R&B, Palmaria’s melting pot of influences helped to shape the sound we hear today. The pair decided to move to London, in order to develop their soulful pop sound further to take in influences from the UK music scene. Their aim has always been to create music that transports the listener to some surreal idyllic place where they can feel free and where they can be themselves.

Brimming with hypnotic melodies and dreamlike soundscapes, and with further music confirmed for 2021, if it’s delightful alt-pop you’re after, there should only be one name on your lips.

Palmaria sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

Giulia's passion for music started when she was a child and stayed for hours watching her mom training for ballet. Francesco became obsessed with The Beatles when he was 4 or 5 and shortly after picked up a guitar for the first time.

We're obsessed with Little Dragon and Sylvan Esso, we love how they keep evolving different styles and genres.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the corona virus pandemic?

The pandemic had quite the impact at the beginning as we had to cancel a US tour and some London shows but we took it as an opportunity to focus on our writing and we ended up with 3 EP’s.

4. How would you describe your sound?

Think The xx meet Sylvan Esso meet Little Dragon on a field trip to the Italian coast.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Definitely when we managed to organise and sell out our first London headline show! It felt amazing to connect with so many people thanks to our music.

Try to enjoy every moment of the journey and if somebody says 'no' to something just take it as an opportunity to improve and try again.

7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?

Some fellow London artists we love and think will do great are: Sharky, VC Pines, Petrie, and look out for a special collab with producer LOELASH.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Free Love by Sylvan Esso, Slow Rush by Tame Impala and Needle Paw by Nai Palm.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Lots of yoga and walking in Nature. They both help us to reset.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?
