Surya Sen is the alias and sonic concept of North London’s British-Bengali producer, DJ, and rapper Rana Ali. Named after the Bangladeshi revolutionary who led the armoury raid against the British Empire for independence in India, Ali’s alter ego Surya Sen is imagined above, in the first taste in a conceptual series of abstract images created by esteemed British artist George Muncey, which explore the political, social and cultural nuances close to Ali’s heart. George Muncey’s images stay true to Surya Sen’s effervescent and genre-defying sonic aesthetic. Fusing House, UK Garage and Hip Hop, Sen deploys crisp production alongside story-telling lyricism.

Now with a debut EP in the works for legendary Brighton imprint Skint Records, Surya Sen unveils his first track for the label, “Jessica”. Summoning us straight to the dance floor with undeniable groove,“Jessica” plays homage to some of Surya’s biggest influences, New York’s Masters at Work and Chicago’s Kerri Chandler - reimagined with a refreshingly North-London feel.
