Mosik Rhymes born in Barking, raised by the sea in Bournemouth. Man was above the corner shop to start with, went and played them corners now we out here, getting money with this rap music. Rhymes and beats played on BBC to Beats1 Kiss all that.

Mosik founded a rap group in 2014 got into the game made some peas and dipped when it started going left in 2016. Focused on the solo material and founded Spinning Wheel Music with the family Nov 2019. Six solo releases since, (working with the best in the game you see me) and 1 other label release.

Mosik sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

Music is a natural place for style. It found me in’it I guess. Illmatic got me differently though.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

Quincy Jones. My guy Sincere. Influences me in life. We got records in the bag. SRG is the hardest rapper out, we also got music in the bag. Benny Banks a proper artist. Kamaal Williams, SonnyJim, Hoolie, Lee Scott in the UK. Dream collabo’s for me? Kanye West, Just Blaze, Marci, Knx, Kaytranada. We would make money. Shout to Bl3u man knows the pen. Hope to work with him again. Man is also looking to work with Eliza I know you man know her tell her hit me up, man can work with that r&b ting, check the catalogue.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the corona virus pandemic?

The fear. Navigating round fear. The lead times for vinyl are over a year allow it. All represses too, allow it. That’s why no wax for Royal Flush. Can’t do shows to promote the records. Meeting humans, the whole ting a total madness.

4. How would you describe your sound?

Real life. It’s hip hop that ain’t ever been heard or seen before. The UK ain’t been this good. A few of us right now are pushing the boat. I’m telling you what goes on from a point of view you haven’t heard and with the skills to make it sound fly. I got expensive taste, my records cost a lot so the sound reflects that. Plus I just made a record with no samples and £100K of instruments. Listeners get a piece of sound you won’t elsewhere.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Illegal show 2020, dropped a heckler with the left, while the mic was in the right. Started a mele and still carried on rhyming. G shit. Shout the two mandem who had a whole crowd of people shook. Having my joints on Beats1 was cool big up Ebro. Being blocked online by MistaJam, I’m proud of that,  same time my record as Jam of the Week, big up.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Health is wealth. Survival of the fittest. U most likely ain’t made for the ting. Everyone quits. Quit sooner rather than later.

7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out

Sincere and SRG. Kartik Sudhera. Guy makes better beats than 99% of the game including me off his laptop in the hood. Mans a teenager he killing it.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

We invented the Remix - Bad Boy Records. Ain’t no1 made rap music like that. A Joint Venture by SonnyJim & Kev Brown. Boldly James & Alc - Tea in China, Dump Gawd - Tha God Fahim. I Want You - Marvin Gaye.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Get money smoke weed. Money clothes and hoes. What else? I like to visit fly places in Italy. Eat from the source watching a Sofia Loren flick looking at the woman I’m with thinking rah. If u check the cover of Recreation there’s a race bike on there. Man fancies himself as a Nairo Quintana in my spare time. Bag of Dro and a pushbike? I’m good. Nah but for real though, I’m really out here, putting in work. See me in fashion maybe fall winter, we’ll see. Always grinding, you know what it is. The team doing bits overseas too. Watch the space.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

I don’t care about nuttin’ but getting that work down in the lab. Everything else is a luxury. But give me hydro weed definitely a haze allow them dawg weeds, slim blue Riz, and water, then make sure the power stays on. I’m good.
