1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
I had MTV on the TV, all the time. Watched music videos over and over and listened to pop princesses like Britney and Christina, I took on a love for albums like “Diva” from Annie Lenox, loved Céline Dion, Barbra Streisand and Nina Simone. So Many more! I always had a guitar growing up, not that I can play…. Yet! Yep I was singing and that was it, I sang an Eric Clapton number and that’s when people saw my musical seed start to grow. So; when I went to a family party and someone had a guitar… You know where I was hehe! But music was always a big thing in my household. My older sister was/is a big musical theatre fan and sings. My uncle is an actor and my stepsister a singer. I really took to music in a big way. Every time I write a song I see the visuals in my headfirst and we know that stems from hella lotta music videos! Hehe!
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
I lovvvvve Lady Gaga! She’s just an amazing artist, she jumps to whatever style she wants and kills it every time! Christina Aguilera, Pink, Etta James, Nina Simone ahhh loads! I would have loved to work with Amy Winehouse. We went to the same stage school and she was so authentic and unique. I miss her so much I regularly sing her music and my gigs.
3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the corona virus pandemic?
Oh my…. Lack of creativity has been a big one for me… I didn’t want to write another song about being trapped, as - in a nutshell is what ‘TRY’ my new single is about. I had a tough lock down. Coming back from living in Dubai for 7 years. Having to move back in with me mum, getting into a toxic lockdown relationship… It really stopped me wanting to release any music. I felt very closed off. When I’m not preforming, I feel a part of me is missing and having to adapt to London life, in a lockdown was crazy to concentrate on anything else but keeping my sanity.
4. How would you describe your sound?
Eclectic, bold and honest, I try to create a story with all my songs and how I write… Now I’m back in London I’m starting to feel a sense of freedom to write exactly how I feel and it’s empowering.
5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
Performing at the same event as Mariah, Sean Paul & Tiesto! Oh and performing at F1 Abu Dhabi. Also having the balls to move to Dubai on my own and start my music career. This girl walked into press houses to get coverage for her first single “Not Giving Up”. I walked in the heat and heels from hotel to hotel trying to get gigs! I’m super proud of myself I supported myself for 7 years performing as a full time musician. I was respected and treated well over there.
6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
It’s not easy, but passion is passion, you will have your up and down days, but you really don’t know what will happen tomorrow! Create as much as you can, don’t be scared to drop music and please try not to over analyse, not everything needs to be “perfect” Network as much as you can, open mic nights are fab! Do your homework, practice, listen to other artists and watch music documentaries. Don’t get disheartened and please take your time to market your work.
7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?
I think Natalie Shay is a great up and coming, Shocka_artist, there is some epic talent in London!
8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?
Oh… I’m not really an album person; I listen to random playlists all the time. One song I’ve practically taken a liking too is “Run It Up” by Snakehips, Earth Gang and “Hear Me Say” by Jonas Blue, Leon.
9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?
I love to perform it haha! I love taking long walks, exploring new places.
Love to go out and eat and drink. I like a good rave! Going to watch live bands, chilling and I like a good shop! I really enjoy making my own natural products for my body and face.
10. Name three things you can't live without when in the studio?
Herbal Tea, Vocal Zone and my own personal masseuse… Yeah that last one was bull haha!
