PREMIERE: Raelle - Wake Up Sunshine (EP) (Early Listen)
South London vocalist Raelle prepares to release her highly anticipated EP ’Wake up Sunshine’.
Following on from her last single ‘Sunrise’, this neo-soul, 70’s-inspired project brings together four tracks that take the listener on a journey of self-realisation, exploring the emotions that come with it. Throughout the record, Raelle uses the times of day as a metaphor for her feelings and mood of each song, exploring love, loss, uncertainty, and self-realisation.
Captivated by Jazz and Soul’s inherent freedom of expression and emotiveness, Raelle channels vibes between poetry and melody, using her voice as a natural way of sharing with others. Amidst this surreal hyper-connected world, centred around superficial images, Raelle’s music aims to enable deeper emotional bonding creating a bridge to share experiences with people from different backgrounds. As you enter Raelle’s world, the EP opens with title track ‘Wake up Sunshine’ - the gentle caress of the harp, joined by falsetto harmonies, create an air of euphoria, her vocals embodying a sense of grace and maturity. Second track, ‘Purple Skies’, is the musical representation of the moment before dawn.
Raelle’s multi-layered vocals guide an exploration of themes of uncertainty and loneliness, but ultimately send a message of hope. Daybreaks and you are greeted with certainty and reassurance of third track ‘Sunrise’. Warm vocals invite the listener to share in an intimate experience that exudes a deep sentiment of hope, fullness, and contentment. Closure comes with the boldness of EP’s closing track ‘Sundown’, as she finalises a chapter in life, and brings the EP to an elegant finish. Reflecting on a lost relationship and how bittersweet goodbyes can be, Raelle assesses where she now stands: alone but never lonely.
The new EP will be available on major streaming platforms from tomorrow: https://dmy.ffm.to/wakeupsunshine
