Madman State sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

Mostly being around other kids at school, local hangouts and the thing would be to rap. It proper engulfed me the way to use flows and melodies to come up with lyrics, so from there I was hooked. Plus seeing rockstars and rappers do their thing on stages was just so mesmerising from a young age.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I mean there’s different era’s of favourite musicians and stuff for me. But the usual names that never go away are Nas, Tyler the Creator, Wu-Tang, Giggs.. I could literally go on lol. My taste is so eclectic and spans different genre’s and time periods. But a couple Artist’s that would be a dream to work with would be Pharrell Williams and maybe Kojey Radical. I really like the unique sounding kind of Artists.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the corona virus pandemic?

Thankfully we’re allowed out now once again to meet in the real world and perform etc.. That was probably the hardest thing about the pandemic, I guess live streaming kind of helped but its still so much more inspiring to go out in person and catch live events/perform etc.. People respond so much more to when I perform live vs over a stream.

4. How would you describe your sound?

It’s definitely evolved from where I started. I started from a very pure Hip hop background, but implementing my skills to play instruments has taken my abilities further as well as my sound. I’d say currently I fit in the description of Alternative Rap/Hip Hop and Pop (With occasional Rock/Electronic influences).

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Probably curating my own event and performing to a sold out crowd in early 2020 (Literally just before the pandemic!). Everyone was in tune with the performance and I was so gassed on stage! Whenever you see my raise my jumper up to reveal my nipple when I perform that means I’m in my element lol! You can still catch it on my Horsebizkit TV youtube channel.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Don’t get into this purely anticipating accolades and recognitions to fall from the sky. Let your passion for the music itself be the thing that grounds you and keeps you sane.

7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?

Really liking some music by a London Artist named Jevon at the moment, also I recently discovered Bob Vylan at the Alt + LDN festival recently.. He's sick!

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Been banging the Nas album & Tyler the creator album a lot since they dropped. Also just about to get onto the new Kanye album, I procrastinate a bit when it comes to the mega big artists.. I haven’t heard Drake’s yet haha.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Other than usual life stuff I like to explore and go for long walks, and nature excursions. Keeps me sane and gives me inspiration to get back at it in the lab. Also comics, I like to draw stuff and blah you know lol.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Much different to what it used to be haha. But nowadays its Green tea (helps me focus), some crisps or something and occasionally beer (just one bottle).
