Covering All Points East a few weeks back was a dream, as one of the first live festivals after Covid boasting a huge line up of some of the best artists in Soul, Jazz, RnB and Rap we were blessed to have access. Priya Oades covering for Wordplay Magazine bumped into Enny backstage for some quick fire questions, it’s a short one but some poignant answers...

So since the release of ‘Peng Black Girls’ you have exploded massively. I think it’s an incredible song and you’re doing amazing things for the UK Music Industry.

Thank you!

How have you found that rise and growth for yourself, your career and for your life?

It’s been sick, I’ve just been taking it in and getting used to everything. When you live in these moments, especially just after performing, you appreciate every step you’re taking and it’s just exciting to be on this journey.

Amazing, and can you tell me about Under 25?

Yeah! Under 25 was kind of the start of all this for me so it’s nice to have it out and to have all the support after ‘Peng Black Girls’ and so it actually came out to a lot of people, yeah it’s cool.

I think it’s an amazing EP, I think the songs are really beautiful and you touch on some important issues. So obviously being a black woman in the music industry and as being as amazing as you are, I’m interested in your take on the treatment of Black people in the UK Music Industry as it’s traditionally a very white industry covering a culture of black origin so I’m interested in what that experience has been like for you.

I think the reality is, to a certain degree, Black culture is Pop Culture and so I feel like when you start to embrace it and stand tall in what you’re representing and who you are then no one can take that away from you. There’s just so many conversations happening right now in spaces that they wouldn’t usually be had in and so, for songs like ‘Peng Black Girls’ to translate the way it has done just shows that change is happening and things are starting to change and people are becoming more aware.

Were you surprised by the support of the song?

Oh 100% I was blown away, that was my second official single!

Have you got anything coming up that you want to chat about?

My Debut Album came out Sunday 5th of September.

Cool and anything else live coming up in the year?

Bristol ‘Love Saves the Day!’ And on the 7th October I’m performing at the Lexington in London.

Amazing, thank you so much, I really appreciate that!
