J P Rose - Control (Official Video)

J P Rose shares soul-ridden, hip hop-tinged new single Control’, the first cut taken from his upcoming debut mixtape Lo-Soul, due for release next Spring.

This head-bopping, self-produced single - defined by COMPLEX as “a hazy, laid-back blend of soul-soaked hip-hop” - sees J P Rose in charge of his own path to greatness; “it’s a song about staying focused and in control of one’s destiny, and being able to give props to yourself along the way,” says J P.

The music video, directed by underground UK hip hop favourite Tansy Taylor - responsible for the music videos of various London rappers including Bawo and Osquello - takes a light-hearted look at J P and his friends while they discuss having no plan and no idea what the video will entail, before the camera crew arrives and all the elements they just mentioned being in their dream video magically manifest.

‘Control’ serves as the first glimpse into the entirely self-produced upcoming mixtape ‘Lo-Soul’, due for release in Spring 2022. An immersive nine track, 30 minute exploration into JP's wide range and eclectic musicality, it’s wonderfully tied together by his conscious rhymes, soulful delivery and lo-fi production. For the project, JP flexes his A&R muscles, recruiting artists from different parts of the world to help bring his creations to life, championing a new wave of UK artists whose music is as much rooted in hip hop and soul as in new styles; underground frontrunner Feux, London rapper, illustrator and designer Kieron Boothe, Kumo Collective’s French-born, London-raised rapper AVC, QM Records’ Brighton-based Dutch soul singer Kymara and Rag’n’Bone Man’s backing vocalist, R&B singer Sylvia Mwenze, to name a few.
