DJ DAZL + Tony Vercetti - illatude (EP)

In the midst of the pandemic we found ourselves immersed in isolation - physically , emotionally and creatively. Festivals cancelled, gigs ceased and studios closed. Yet for Tony Vercetti, previously featured on Merseyrail Soundstation and BBC Radio Music Festival, a virtual connection sparked in the midst of it all, a digital line across the pond with NY producer DJ DAZL, who’s accoldeas include collaborations with Raekwon (Wu-Tang Clan), KRS-One and Pharoahe Monch. The result is illatude - an enigmatic EP fusing old and new pop.

Let’s take a tour through the 3 track EP.

Opening with sampled line `This is a country of many contradictions' ,Track 1, Save Me Life, layers the gritty rap of DJ DAZL onto the melodic fusion of delicate keys and masterful reverbations.

This mastery continues in Still I Rise, where we’re graced with the airy vocals of Vercitti. Together with notes of sweet jazz, the pair craft an dulcifying ambience in this track.

Final track tony montana is where boom bap beats meet UK flow, the uptempo beat offers up a flawless embodiment of the Scarface protagonist and track namesake -  you can almost smell the Cuban cigars.
