JMac - The Shortcut Home EP (EP) + 10 Questions

JMac South Londons own fresh prince of Dully (Dulwich).

JMac is a versatile artist who does not stick to one type of hip hop genre, as in his life he has lived many different lives. The different sounds allow him to paint an authentic and realistic picture of his whole life.

His artistic vision is to create future nostalgic music, music that people love, and that reminds them of their life. The aim was always to relate to other people through words and emotional expression.

The Shortcut Home EP was produced & mixed by Cassius Clifford.

Jmac sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

My love for music started when I heard what’s my name by Snoop Dogg, there’s an actual video of me rapping to that tune. It exists on VHS somewhere. That song and regulators!!!

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

My influences are broad because i’m all about message and relatability. How that message reached has changed sonically over the years. Inspirations at a glance are Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Cam’ron, Joe Budden, J. Cole, Drake, Future, Giggs, Skepta and Kano. There’s so many that have influenced me throughout life, I’d love to work with them all and I believe I will as well.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

So we just dropped the shortcut home Ep, this is a tracksuit garage project based on living in London, chasing a dream but getting caught up in the real life goings on.  Tracksuit garage is the sound we created.

4. How would you describe your sound?

Future nostalgia, music that makes you vibe out in a way you thought was reserved for old memories. Regardless of the genre or sub genre we make future nostalgia.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

There’s so many, I’m so grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way, especially the ones we have been able to cease. Reaching people through established platforms such as Kiss Fm, GRM Daily, Reprezent Radio & yourselves has been amazing and show how far we can go but also the creation of the music. How it sounds to me makes me incredibly grateful but also just being able to reach people and make an impact with our art. I want to reach as many people as possible.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Make a plan, stick to it, you might have to adjust (that’s fine), but stick to your guns, gain experience and trust your vision.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Yeah there’s some guy called @jusmaccinn, he dropped a EP called The Shortcut Home, it’s fuego. All joke aside I have to shout out my guys.. Pacc, Knockz, orae khalil, Ins (classic one ins), Hacko doing live, Adelo plays The gaffer & jepeto knocks. There’s a few still.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Freddie Gibbs new one, The Shortcut Home Ep, the new two man migos album, off the top of my head that’s it. I listen to more RnB, a lot of these rappers don’t interest me unfortunately.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Maccinn, nothing but maccinn at its finest.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Dank, water & Cc.
