PREMIERE: B-ahwe - Next Spring (Single)

Help Musicians-backed future soul vocalist and songwriter B-ahwe marks the change of the seasons with a jazz-tinged vocal performance on her new single 'Next Spring'.

Cowritten with producer Lewis Moody (30/70, Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange), the track uses the changing seasons to reflect on a past relationship. Starting out mournful, B-ahwe sets the scene with loss and discontent before taking the listener on a journey towards self-love and gratification.

She weaves a story around the hopefulness of spring and the empowerment of choosing to love herself. The musicality reflects her internal journey - lush string arrangements and brooding piano act as the canvas for a stunning jazz vocal performance, as shades of Sarah Vaughan melt seamlessly into B-ahwe's trademark melodic rap flow, akin to contemporaries Joy Crookes and Noname.

"The song started out as my own jazz standard, but working together with Lewis brought a fresh sound to the story, bridging together influences old and new. It's about using hindsight to reflect in a healthy way, rather than giving in to negativity."

The last couple of years have seen B-ahwe independently release two EPs; 2020s 'Nuance' and 2021s 'Motions'. Her music has been supported by the Independent, New Wave Magazine, Atwood Magazine and Gigwise, and played across BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra, Worldwide FM, Reprezent Radio and Jazz FM by the likes of Jack Saunders, Sian Eleri, Jamz Supernova, Gilles Peterson, and Tony Minvielle. Tastemaker support has fed into consistent love from Spotify and Apple Music, with her music amassing over 3 million streams to date.

Outside of her own music, B-ahwe has also collaborated with hip-hop artists LAUSSE THE CAT and Nix Northwest, drum 'n' bass heavyweight Mitekess, and UK jazz acts Pyjaen and Yaatri.
