Singer-songwriter and producer Azekel shares his latest single ‘Palm Wine Dreamz’, featuring Kojey Radical and anaiis, via Mr Eazi’s emPawa Africa. The track is out now on all digital platforms.

The latest offering from multi hyphenate artist Azekel, ‘Palm Wine Dreamz’ was recorded across London and Ghana throughout the Covid-19 lockdown, with vocalist anaiis and the inimitable Kojey Radical brought in to add their own unique touches. The track oscillates deftly between multi-layered conceptions of love: simultaneously exploring romance, parenthood, kinship and community. Expressed from Azekel’s personal vantage point as a British-Nigerian ‘Palm Wine Dreamz’ also dissects the pluralistic face of contemporary masculinity – at once strong and tender, proud and humble, expressive and restrained. In typically understated fashion the artist explains: “As men we often don’t talk openly about love.” Radiating with an honest and reflexive tone, ‘Palm Wine Dreamz’ becomes an open letter to himself and his extended network of collaborators. A natural extension of his heritage and identity, Azekel uses music as a form of introspection and exploration – allowing his practice to move him forward in an embrace of life, all the while evocatively navigating a host of complex themes through sound and lyrics.
