Gaby K - Everyday (Single) + 10 Questions

Birmingham born and raised R&B artist Gaby K, releases her latest single ‘Everyday’- a track that explores the physical attraction instead of the unexplainable feelings surrounding the euphoric ‘honeymoon stage’ at the start of a relationship.

Gaby’s empowering, spontaneous songs are raw and moving, and are reminiscent of some of her biggest influences; Amber Mark, Joy Crookes, Emeli Sande and the likewise. The sheer emotional and organic nature of her songs have garnered her some impressive BBC Introducing support across Birmingham and London, as well as a coveted main support slot on Olivia Dean’s 2021 EP tour.

Always writing with passion and from the heart, Gaby creates music that is based upon personal experiences that offers an intimate glimpse into her life. Her musical repertoire promotes self-love and female empowerment, and she delivers these messages in a glistening pop-infused R&B package that guarantees to impress.

This song would resonate with anyone who has experienced the dream-like fantasy of a new relationship”.

Gaby sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I have always loved music, it’s always been a massive part of my life. I can’t go a day without it and I think I knew I wanted to be a part of that feeling that I get for someone else when listening to music. It pretty much started when I sang in front of my school back in 2011, he reaction I got was something that had a massive effect on my decision to actually pursue a career within music. Although it took time for me to actually make a proper first step in production and make some kind of moves, it really was at that moment that I knew this is exactly what I wanted to do in life.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

A few artists who influence me and my music and who I would love to work with in the future would probably be Amber Mark, Joy Crookes and Amaarae and Jessie Reyez. They are all amazing artists, who just show this fiercely independent female empowerment, which is what really resonates with me and my music.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

At the moment, I am working on quite a few songs, developing my brand and sound and will be creating my next EP.

4. How would you describe your sound?

I would say it’s like a pop/r’n’b feel with a hint of soul. I would say what I create is a pretty chilled sound but I have recently started to branch out so we will see what people think of that in the future.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Definitely when I was standing on stage in front of an amazing crowd of people whilst supporting Olivia Dean in Birmingham on her EP tour. Every single person in that room was singing along to my songs even though they had never heard of me before I walked up on that stage. It was an incredible feeling to see all these people really feel the music and just love every second of it.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

To be resilient, you’re going to have days where you question yourself but that's normal. Just keep pushing, keep working towards it and although I would say to use every minute of every-day to up-skill within anything that may help you progress, you need to remember to give yourself time to rest and take care of yourself and your mental health.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

I recently came across Bel Cobain, she's such a talented artist and her sound is so beautiful and chilled, definitely listen and watch out for her.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

At the moment, I can't stop listening to YESSIE by Jessie Reyes, I love her and her music, I feel like she is so unique and actually I will be going to watch her perform in the new year, which I cannot wait for.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I like to keep fit, so I go to the gym in my spare time but also socialising and going out with friends. A lot of my mates live in different cities so it’s a good excuse to be able to travel around the UK to see them.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Coffee, snacks (of course) and definitely some thick comfy socks, I don’t like wearing shoes in the studio.
