kid apollo - leave her (Official Video)
Brixton, London based trio kid apollo have shared new single "leave her" and its accompanying self-directed video. The new track is lifted from the outfit's upcoming second EP 'u the real star here' out 19th November via Sweat Entertainment, following previous EP tasters "all on me" (and its accompanying self directed video) and "camera shy" - both receiving widespread press adoration and huge Spotify editorial support (Alternative R&B, Fresh Finds, The Other List, Fresh Finds R&B, Our Generation).
Consisting of twin brothers (and producers) Felix and Theo Ratigan and singer/producer Jimmy HM, kid apollo create visceral, contemplative lo-fi R&B, tackling the anxieties and over-stimulation of teenage life in London.
New single "leave her" was written and produced by kid apollo, with additional production from Tev'n (Rina Sawayama, Joy Crookes) and mixed by JHJ (cityboymoe, Mac Wetha, Olivia Dean).
A song that talks about being pulled in different directions ["leave her, my friends are all in my ears"] and having to find the strength within to take the right path, "leave her" moves to a sleepy, shuffling beat, with vocalist Jimmy's poetic, almost diaristic bars delicately sweeping above precisely plucked nylon string guitars and atmospheric electronic flourishes.
Speaking on the song's lyrical meaning, Jimmy said: "This song talks about how I feel when you’re being pulled in two different directions but don't know which way will sit best with you. Everyone around you tries to have good intentions but ultimately, only you can figure it all out. The song needed lots of space to breathe sonically in order to contradict the message of the actual song."
