Theon Cross - Wings (Single)

Theon Cross by Ian Hippolyte

High-flying composer and tuba player Theon Cross returns with soaring new single, Wings.

Explaining the inspiration behind Wings, Cross says: “Conceptually, the song speaks of the metaphorical wings needed to take flight and embrace new changes and directions in life. It captures a feeling of freedom and symbolises a sense of progressive movement which feels significant as I move into a new chapter in my career.”

The single includes a second track; an easy-going, bass-heavy cover version of reggae heroes Aswad’s Back To Africa. Both tracks are out digitally and will be available as a limited edition 7” single, available to pre-order from now.

An incredible musician who's constantly looking to push boundaries, Theon Cross is at the forefront of the thriving London jazz scene. In addition to his solo endeavours, Cross is a core member of Sons Of Kemet, plays in Kano's live band, and has collaborated with Stormzy, The Smile, Little Simz, Moses Boyd, Nubya Garcia, and others.

Since the October 2021 release of his acclaimed album, Intra-I, Cross has been busy with a successful solo tour and final round of Sons Of Kemet dates before the band’s indefinite hiatus. The South Londoner recently reimagined Thelonious Monk’s Epistrophy for the Blue Note Re:imagined II compilation and will be marking the first anniversary Intra-I by unveiling a special Spatial Audio mix of the album.
