KUAMA - SOMNELENCE (NEW SINGLE)
Rising Aberdeen artist Kuama releases 'Somnolence', the hypnotic, heart-searing new single from the versatile musician's forthcoming album on Granite Bloc Records.
Set to haunting imagery taken by Crzp from the city's Brimmond Hill, ‘Somnolence’ is a poignant snapshot of the Fear at 4am with Kuama's flowing poetics telling of the grief of lost love with matter-of-fact vulnerability.
Here, the hot wounds of freshly-ripped bonds are soothed by a lullabying vocal refrain while slack guitar strums, nostalgic synth fragments and listless beats from producer-composer Autrioly evoke a sense of tranquility for the newly-heartbroken.
Lo-fi and stark, ‘Somnolence's’ musical unfussiness foregrounds the emotional honesty of its protagonist who notes the single is a spiritual successor to ‘Stars’, a previous track that twinkled with new-relationship yearning.
“The song itself is a way of healing for me,” says Kuama (pronounced Koo-ama). “It derived from bad experiences with relationships and by managing to put it into words in a song was almost a release for me.”
