J-Felix ft: Bessi + Bigzy - The Love That Hurts (Single)

Originally from Bristol, now living in Brighton; Musician, Producer and DJ, J-Felix presents the second single from vol 1 of his new series, The Mint Experiment. Continuing with the theme of Anemoia and Nostalgia 'The Love That Hurts' is a classic duet style love song between Bessi & Bigzy with a twist that reflects on relationships which did not work, but individuals involved could learn and grown in their journey. The instrumental was developed by J-Felix on beats, guitar and keys whilst Bessi, (who as well as being a solo artist has appeared on bass for Scrimshire) added bass parts and collaborated with J on synths. Once the vocals were down after a productive session in one night, Mike Simmonds (Alice Russell/ Quantic/ Bonobo) came in to work on viola and violin contributions with J. Bigzy is a Brighton (via London) based rapper and singer who is carving his own solo career.

The track is the second of four on volume 1 of The Mint Experiment (out early 2023) which features an array of heavy hitting collaborators working with J-Felix in exploring the concept of Anemoia - a nostalgia for a time you never knew. A feeling J gets a lot when listening to old records, reading biographies of his musical heroes and hearing stories of legendary clubs and parties which happened before his time. It features J-Felix's performances on keys, guitars, synths, beats and production involving plenty of analogue processing and experimenting to cassette tape.

The new chapter beginning for J-Felix who has begun his own label OVN Records continues. Named after his three girls, he is using the platform to experiment with format and new collaborators, equipment and writing styles. ‘Mint’ as in the Bristol meaning - proper mint. ‘Experiment’ with new approaches, people and releasing music independently.
