Sophomooreik - EASYAS...[letting go] (EP)
Sophomooreik returns with EASYAS...[letting go], his third EP showcasing his authentic storytelling and unique mix of trap, electronica and alternative hip-hop.
Sophomooreik, whose real name is Liam Moore, is firmly establishing himself as a shrewd and perceptive storyteller, using his own experiences, and those of the people around him, to construct a semi-fictional, semi-autobiographical yet always authentic narrative that develops over each track.
23-year-old Moore grew up with an appetite for discovering and exploring new music and would spend hours rummaging in HMV. This was where he discovered Eminem and became drawn to rap. At just 10 years old Moore was challenging himself and his peers to write verses on beats, they would head home after school and return the next day to perform what they had created. It was at this very young age when Moore became aware of the depth of music, how in addition to the melodic aspect of the music there were rhyme schemes. He spent his time studying and analysing the ways in which words were put together and this became his main focus, inspiring him to take music more seriously. “It was the linguistics of it all that caught me; the rhyming was technical, and I never wanted to just say things for the sake of the rhyme, it was deeper than that”.
The NW Londoner set his sights on music, and as he began forming connections with producers, his sound developed. He now works closely with producer Beecher and together they create dark, trap sounding beats that tap into more melodic and harmonious sounding tracks. This collaboration allows his lyrics to dictate the flow. “I work out what I want to say first and then I look into the beats, I want my lyrics to do all the work and lead the music, not the other way around,” Sophomooreik states, and he stays true to his word.
Speaking about the new EP, Sophomooreik says, “EASYAS... [letting go] is a night in my life starting with me at my house at a low point in life , when I get a call about a party happening.
The following songs narrate that night and highlight the negatives of distracting yourself with the highs of life without actually tackling what was making you down in the first place.
This is my perspective and my journey working through those highs and lows” .
