Fast-rising Scottish-Malaysian artist Sonn has unveiled his new single ‘CAREFORME’, out now.

Channelling an infectious alt-R&B vibe, ‘CAREFORME’ is a hypnotic jam combining sparse, delicate production with Sonn’s enchantingly sedated vocals. The track will feature on his forthcoming EP ‘IN THE HEAT’, the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Something, Safe’, a project that has garnered over 2.8 million Spotify streams.

“I wrote CAREFORME just as the pandemic hit and lockdown started in the UK, the song is essentially about self care. When I had time to sit by myself and let my thoughts run I found myself getting into a few unhealthy habits and negative thinking. CAREFOREME was the result of getting better and recovering from feeling down all the time.”  Sonn explains,  “CAREFORME represents a reminder to myself to keep myself positive and to keep my head up. Whenever I'm feeling low I step back from everything and ask myself if i "care for me". I was inspired by the feeling of falling which I feel reflects the song's sonics. This song is the beginning of the world i am trying to create with this EP”.

Sonn sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I’ve loved music since I could remember! I was raised in a household where music would always be playing, from 90’s house to rock and I always held on to that. I played drums in a couple of bands when I was in high school and when I moved to the UK in 2016 I just happened to stumble upon music production and I instantly fell in love and from that moment I knew that this is what I wanted to do.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I have so many, I tend to pull inspiration from all sorts of places, at the moment i’m really into Omar Apollo and the direction he’s going, I think it would also be real cool to have a Skrillex produced song.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the corona virus pandemic?

The pandemic made it really hard to stay motivated to continue writing music as I was just home all day lazing around, although i do think the benefit of that was that it allowed me time to develop and really think about things and not rush. During the pandemic we’ve seen the musical landscape shift so dramatically to the point where artists are churning out music to keep up with the short attention spans we have nowadays and I feel like sometimes the artistry gets lost because of that.

4. How would you describe your sound?

Nocturnal. Like you’re driving fast at night.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Without a doubt this upcoming EP. This EP represents a shift in myself as well as my artistry and I cant wait for everyone to hear it!

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Just keep being true to yourself. If you have the vision your time will come eventually. Don’t be afraid to try new things, experiment and keep it fun, otherwise you will burn out real quick.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

One of my favourite up and coming artists right now is Daniel Price, his music is so refreshing and tasteful. Another artist i’m messing with is Pearl they have written and played guitar on a couple of tracks on the EP and their new music is ridiculous.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Dijon - “Absolutely”, crazy good album. Im also listening to loads of No Romes new album - “Its all smiles”, love how forward thinking this album is!

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

When i’m not making music i’m usually thinking about/working on visuals, I love to conceptualise my music through imagery and video. If not probably walking around London somewhere, I love walking about central London in the evening - helps clear the mind.
