After making waves and winning hearts over the last year with his flawless vocals, musical charisma and timeless sound, grentperez has released his debut EP ‘Conversations With The Moon’ and it’s really something.

A self confessed hopeless romantic, 20 year old grentperez has mastered the art of depicting matters of the heart with his intricate songwriting and swooning melodies. Why I Love You comes as the next installment and it looks to be his biggest moment yet. Sharing more, grentperez explained: “Why I Love you is a song about a relationship that seems too chaotic for its own good, but somehow just works. This song really brings out the perfect imperfections within a relationship, talking about the inconvenience and moodiness that this person brings, but you ultimately love those factors because that's what makes them who they are.  On top of that, to me makes the relationship that much more fun.”

grentperez sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I guess I was raised in a family that was very interested in music! I remember growing up listening to a lot of RnB from my siblings and Folk oriented stuff from my parents.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

A few artists that have influenced me would be Rex Orange County, Bread, The Beatles and Frank Ocean to name a few. I'd definitely love to work with artists like Rex, Laufey and Phum, but the list could go on.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the coronavirus pandemic?

My problems thus far have been pretty minimal, with making and releasing a lot of it can be done remotely really! So it's still been pretty fun haha.

I'd say the only real problems were not having any studio sessions and irl performances.

4. How would you describe your sound?

I'd say my music is soft but dynamic. It has old school elements but with a subtle modern day twist, with folk type melodies but modern instrumentals. Maybe. I can never quite pinpoint what I sound like.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

In terms of proudest moments, I'd say every time a song is final, or even birthed. The feeling of that always gets me. I share a lot of my other moments with my community so everything that we've been through are my most grateful moments.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Get into it, definitely practice your writing and if you're really trying to get better and better at it, make sure to analyze your work afterwards too! Also, don't forget to show people, that's the most exciting bit. There's no real way to get it wrong, as long as you're continually doing something you're on the right path.

Oh, and don't forget, music is creation, it's art and with art comes love and emotion. Feel your music :)

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

There's a really cool dude, another fellow from Sydney, his name is Matthew Ifield he's got to have one of the smoothest voices I've heard in a while.

Another that I'd list would be Zion Garcia, and Breakfast Road, both coming from the hometown area of Western Sydney!

There'a definitely a lot more around, but I'd say keep an attentive eye.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Currently waiting on Toro Y Moi's new releases and Rex's, but I've been really enjoying Stevan's "Just Kids (mixtape)", Slow Thai's "Tyron" and Tyler's "Call Me When You Get Lost".

Although I'm still on the hunt for more music!

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I love to draw / paint in my free time, the other day I got around to playing ball with my best friend which was a great refresher. I play games too, Halo, Valorant, Assetto Corsa at the moment.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

My little journal book thingy that I bring everywhere, A good chemistry between the producer and I, and probably Gum.
