Robin Knightz - I Like It (Official Video)

Marking International Women’s Day in style, exciting upcoming Manchester talent Robin Knightz delivers new single ‘I Like It’, out now.

Pairing a groove-heavy production with Robin’s slick flow, ‘I Like It’ is an infectious modern jam that also draws on classic hip-hop tropes with an alt-pop twist. Produced by Grammy Nominated iO, the single drops with a vibrant music video directed by Rebekah Creative (Becky Hill, MNEK, Kara Marni & Alicai Harley), showing Robin in a new edgy light. It follows on from last year’s singles ‘INNIT4’ and ‘Composed’, which was glowingly described as “a real line in the sand” by Clash Magazine.

An exciting new explorative voice, Robin Knightz is one of Manchester’s best kept secrets. Her self-assured lyricism, matched with her smooth delivery and effortless ability to float between rap & alt-pop, makes her a force to be reckoned with this year.

Robin sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I’ve always been interested and curious about music from a young age. The creation process, how to even sing it all. Growing up, my brother and cousins introduced me into the rap and watching them go back and forth was something that always kept me inspired.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

This is a hard question cos there’s too many people to pick from that influenced me at different times in my life. I love how in music there’s a song for every emotion or feeling. The comfort in that for me has always been the addiction that kept bringing me back to music. I’m always down to work, I love the process of music and there’s some producers I really wanna get in with; Pharrell, Take A Daytrip, Mura Masa, Labrinthe, 100 Gecs, there’s honestly loads. For artists, I’d love to get in with The Weeknd, Kanye West, 070 Shake, FKA twigs, 1975, again probably too many to mention hahah.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

I have an ep coming up yano, my first one :)

4. How would you describe your sound?

I really wouldn’t know how to describe my sound yano. It’s a lot of things in one lol.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

My proudest moment would deffo have to be believing in myself, the most cliche shit you hear lol. I know I'm nowhere near all the stuff I'm tryna’ achieve but everyday that I’m working and developing my craft I get closer.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Bare people will always try and derail your journey. You just gotta stay focused. Hard work never goes amiss. Don’t change, you make music cos you love it, not all advice and opinions need to be taken on board, respectfully.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

I’m just saying artists, producers, writers up north are in their own worlds, If you haven’t already check out some you need to. Hit me up I’ll send you loads, if I start naming here I'd have to put every name down and you wouldn’t have any room left for anything else.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Juice WRLD's albums are always on rotation, Dawn FM by The Weeknd, The College Dropout (big up Kanye West and his documentary on Netflix, one of the best things I’ve seen)… I’ve been listening to the soundcheck to EUPHORIA, I believe Labrinthe had a big part to play in it, the man’s a genius!!!!

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Normally if I’m not making music I’m chilling, watching films, series, cartoons, playing COD, seeing mates. To be fair I hardly take a day off so it’s rare, I’m a pretty boring person lol.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?
- water
- lip balm
- toilet wipes
