Brittney Day - The Debut (EP) + 10 Questions

R&B soul singer and songwriter Brittney Day shares her touching debut EP ‘The Debut’, out now on all streaming platforms.

Showcasing her powerful vocals, Brittney Day’s EP is a beautiful, complete body of work that tackles various life issues. Speaking on topics such as love, family and healing, the EP taps into her vulnerability and sensitivity, transcending generations and encouraging introspection in a calm space.

Talking about the EP Brittney says,”I truly just want people to resonate with it in whatever way their mind, body & soul needs. I want my music to touch the heart space and continue to help people in the journey to healing… Something to help you get through when you’re just going through internal struggles within yourself. I feel like there aren’t many songs that resonate in that space.”

Born in New York, Brittney Day has truly found her purpose since moving to Atlanta, creating music that feeds the soul. Performing for her family from a young age, Brittney has always known that being a performer was her calling.

Brittney sat down with Wordplay Magazine to Answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

Ever since I could remember I was always singing & writing songs. It's always felt like one of the very few ways that I could truly express how I feel. Something behind it has also always felt very purposeful. I started releasing singles in 2019, dropped EP 2022 and can't wait for everyone to hear more!

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

Amy Winehouse, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Adele are among the many influential artists that I've looked to. When Amy passed I was devastated, she was one of my favourite and one of the artists i've always wanted to work with. Now, I would really love to work with Ari Lennox, I think that would be really dope.

3.  What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

I just released my first project, The Debut, so I’ve kind of been living in the moment & high of the release. I’m planning on dropping something new soon but don’t know when just yet.

4. How would you describe your sound?

Soulful r&b & jazz renaissance.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Honestly, everyday I continue to push myself in this journey is a proud moment. I don’t have a specific one, they’re all important milestones to me.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

It’s tough but if your heart is truly in it then the obstacles won’t really matter. Also, It's cliche to say but just be yourself. There’s no other better way.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Kirby is super dope! I’ve also been listening to a lot of Xavier Omar too!

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Honestly, I’ve just been hitting shuffle & letting the algorithm do its thing.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I really just like to chill. Hang with friends at an arcade bar & have some fun. I’m also a really big home body & always love being cosy on the couch.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Water, throat coat tea and snacks.
