Nemzzz - 2MS (Official Video) + 10 Questions

Hailing from Gorton, Manchester the seventeen-year-old rapper Nemzzz is determined to stand out. ‘2MS’ marks the first domestic rap release through Motown Records UK; the track originally started out as freestyle to celebrate hitting a million streams off the back of his track ‘Elevate’, which went viral on TikTok and spent five weeks in the OCC – “A million streams a billion dreams, in love with bread, might marry the Queen”.

However, by the time Nemzzz made it into the studio to record the track, his numbers were close to eclipsing the two million mark. He reacted by renaming the track ‘2MS’, which serves to prove the underground buzz this promising talent is quickly garnering. Shot by frequent collaborator Blue Boredom, the accompanying music video for ‘2MS’ sees Nemzzz out and about with his mates in his hometown, showing the world his roots.

Nemzzz sat down with WordplayMagazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I’ve always been around music. I’m from a musical family who performs and makes music - my Dad is a reggae musician. When I was six,  I rapped over a song he made and everyone was impressed by it, so I guess you can say that was my first ever song! I also think that’s when I fell in love with the idea of being a musician.  My parents always told me I could do music properly, but it was only at around age 13 I started to believe that it was possible.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I was inspired by artists like 2Pac, 50 Cent and D Block Europe, as they started a whole new wave in the UK. My dream collab would be a track with Lil Baby.

3.  What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

The plan is just to feed the fans with more and more music in 2022. I just want to share my music!

4. How would you describe your sound?

I’d describe my sound as different & unique. It’s the Nemzzz sound which I have developed through trial and error after making music for years. People might compare it to drill, but I like to call it the Nemzzz sound because it’s different.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

When I hit a million streams on my song Elevate, I felt for the first time that my own sound would work as it’s different to what other people were putting out there. It inspired me to make my current song 2MS – the track was originally meant to be a freestyle to celebrate when Elevate got 2 million streams. Another proud moment happened on a casual trip into town in Manchester. I got loads of love from random people from my town, saying how much they loved my music and what it meant to them, which made me feel good.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

My advice would be to stay consistent, practice, and don’t be afraid to be different.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Arz, SwitchOTR, Kid Wild and Kenzo, an artist from Manny.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Lil Durk’s The Voice and Central Cee’s Wild West.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Gaming, skateboarding and spending time with family.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Chicken, Bigga fruit punch, and my phone.
